Radisson Hotel Group has added four hotels in Stockholm and Copenhagen to its Verified Net Zero programme, bringing the portfolio to nine properties across the Nordics and the UK. The expansion moves the group closer to its target of 100 participating hotels by 2030 and extends the programme to several large conference venues.
The latest additions are Radisson Blu Waterfront Hotel, Stockholm, including Stockholm Waterfront Congress Centre; Radisson Blu Royal Viking Hotel, Stockholm; Radisson Blu Arlandia Hotel, Stockholm-Arlanda; and Radisson Blu Scandinavia Hotel, Copenhagen.
All four are existing hotels, reflecting the group’s aim to apply the programme across properties with different infrastructure and operating requirements.
“Growth and sustainability cannot be two separate conversations. If we want to build a stronger hospitality business for the long term, we need hotels that reduce their environmental impact while continuing to deliver for our guests, owners and people,” said Federico J. González, Global CEO of Radisson Hotel Group.
Large Conference Venues Join the Programme
Meetings and events are a significant part of the latest expansion.
The 414-room Radisson Blu Waterfront Hotel sits beside Stockholm Central Station and the adjoining Stockholm Waterfront Congress Centre. The congress centre offers 14,000 square metres of event space across 24 meeting rooms, accommodating up to 3,000 participants.
The LEED Gold-certified venue incorporates 1,040 square metres of solar panels and a cooling system that uses water from nearby Klara Sjö.
Also near Stockholm Central Station, the 459-room Radisson Blu Royal Viking Hotel has 15 meeting rooms, with its largest space accommodating 180 guests. Radisson Blu Arlandia Hotel, around two kilometres from Stockholm Arlanda Airport, offers 342 rooms and 24 meeting rooms with a combined capacity of up to 771 people.
In Denmark, Radisson Blu Scandinavia Hotel, Copenhagen joins the programme with 544 recently renovated rooms and 14 meeting rooms. The property has capacity for more than 2,000 event guests, according to the group.
What Verified Net Zero Covers
Radisson says its programme addresses emissions from hotel energy use, known as Scopes 1 and 2, alongside the operational and supply chain footprint covered by Scope 3.
Measures include using 100% renewable energy through electrification and/or renewable energy purchases, reducing waste, and reviewing emissions associated with food, laundry and guest amenities.
Each participating hotel undergoes independent verification by TÜV Rheinland against the Net Zero Methodology for Hotels.
“Importantly, every Verified Net Zero Hotel is independently verified by TÜV Rheinland against the Net Zero Methodology for Hotels, providing customers with confidence, transparency and credibility in an increasingly complex sustainability landscape,” said Inge Huijbrechts, Chief Sustainability & Security Officer at Radisson Hotel Group.
Food is another focus. Working with Swedish specialist Klimato, Radisson has reviewed breakfast, room service and event menus to develop recipes with lower carbon footprints. Dishes carry carbon labels ranging from A, the lowest, to E, the highest. The group says recipe changes can reduce carbon footprints by up to 40%.
Targeting 100 Hotels by 2030
The four additions follow the recent introduction of three Verified Net Zero hotels in Norway.
With nine properties now participating, Radisson plans to use the experience gained at these hotels to guide further expansion. For corporate travel buyers and event organisers, the latest additions broaden the choice of venues operating under the independently verified programme, particularly for larger conferences and group stays.
