IHG Signs Madrid’s San Bernardo Hotel for Vignette Collection

IHG Signs Madrid’s San Bernardo Hotel for Vignette Collection

IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed a 67-room Vignette Collection hotel in central Madrid, with an opening planned for March 2028.

San Bernardo, Vignette Collection will occupy a converted heritage office building on Calle de San Bernardo, close to Gran Vía. The agreement brings IHG’s combined operating and planned Luxury & Lifestyle portfolio in Spain to 21 properties.

Heritage Building to Become a Luxury Hotel

The redevelopment will preserve key architectural features of the partially protected building while introducing contemporary interiors and guest facilities.

Plans include an internal courtyard, an all-day dining venue, a lounge and bar, and fitness facilities.

The property is owned by San Bernardo 19 S.L. and will be operated by Hotel Collection International, one of IHG’s largest franchisees in Spain. Real estate advisory and investment management firm Catella advised on the deal.

Willemijn Geels, IHG’s Vice President of Development for Europe, said the building’s character, its location near Gran Vía and the operator’s experience made it a strong fit for Vignette Collection.

Vignette Collection Builds Its Spanish Portfolio

The Madrid signing follows other Spanish additions to the collection, including Finca Banyols in Mallorca, Casa del Compositor in Jerez and Hacienda de la Vega in Carmona.

Spain remains a priority European growth market for IHG. The group’s operating and development portfolio spans ten brands, with expansion focused on destinations including Madrid, Barcelona, Mallorca, Málaga and Marbella.

Launched in 2021, Vignette Collection allows hotels to retain their individual names and identities while joining IHG’s distribution network, commercial systems and IHG One Rewards loyalty programme.

Further Growth Across Europe

Vignette Collection made its European debut with Casa da Companhia in Porto and has since expanded into markets including the UK, Hungary, Italy, France, Türkiye and Spain.

Recent additions include Canary Riverside Plaza in London and Esperança Hotel in Braga.

IHG says the brand has passed the halfway point towards its original ambition of reaching 100 hotels within ten years of launch. San Bernardo adds a further city-centre conversion to that growth, with the Madrid property set to welcome guests in 2028.
