IHG Signs Hotel Indigo Yogyakarta for 2029 Opening

IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed an agreement with Indonesian developer PT Raka Eka Makmur for a 180-room Hotel Indigo in Yogyakarta, marking the group’s first planned property in the city.

Scheduled to open in 2029, Hotel Indigo Yogyakarta will feature a rooftop bar, a spa and meeting facilities, with its design drawing on the city’s artistic traditions and cultural heritage.

The agreement, announced on 7 October 2026, also establishes a new partnership between IHG and PT Raka Eka Makmur.

Rooftop Bar and Event Spaces Planned

Facilities will include an all-day dining restaurant, a rooftop bar and terrace, a swimming pool, a fitness centre and a spa.

The hotel will also offer approximately 740 square metres of meeting and event space, including a ballroom and several meeting rooms.

Its design will follow Hotel Indigo’s approach of incorporating the surrounding neighbourhood’s culture, food and creative character into each property.

“Yogyakarta is a natural fit for Hotel Indigo, a brand inspired by the character and spirit of the neighbourhoods it calls home,” said Chris Anklin, Senior Director, Development, South East Asia & Korea, IHG Hotels & Resorts.

“As we expand our Luxury & Lifestyle portfolio across Indonesia, we see growing opportunities in destinations with distinctive local character and authentic stories.”

A Base for Exploring Java’s Cultural Heritage

The planned hotel will serve travellers visiting Yogyakarta’s arts and food scene, as well as those exploring Borobudur and Prambanan.

IHG cited Yogyakarta’s role as a gateway to Borobudur, one of Indonesia’s five Super Priority Destinations, and improved air connectivity through Yogyakarta International Airport as factors supporting the investment.

“The hotel will offer guests an authentic gateway to the destination’s arts, culinary and cultural experiences, while serving as a base to explore iconic UNESCO World Heritage sites such as Borobudur and Prambanan,” said Ronny Pallar, President Director of PT Raka Eka Makmur.

“Together with IHG, we look forward to creating a hotel that captures the spirit of Yogyakarta and enables guests to experience the people, culture and stories that make this destination truly unique.”

Hotel Indigo Expands Across Indonesia

IHG currently operates three Hotel Indigo properties in Indonesia, in Bali, Bandung and Bintan. A further six are in the pipeline, with destinations including Bali, Jakarta and Lombok.

Across its wider Indonesian portfolio, IHG has 35 operating hotels spanning nine brands and another 13 properties in development.
