Marriott Reaches 300 Hotels in Mexico With Courtyard Torreón Opening

Marriott International has reached 300 properties in Mexico following the opening of Courtyard by Marriott Torreón, taking its portfolio in the country to more than 44,000 rooms across 25 brands.

Mexico is Marriott’s largest market in the Caribbean and Latin America, accounting for more than half of its operating properties in the region and almost 40% of its development projects.

As of the second quarter of 2026, Marriott’s Mexican pipeline comprised 76 hotels with more than 12,000 rooms. The company expects to open over ten additional properties in the country before the end of the year.

Conversions Account for 35% of the Pipeline

Conversions of existing hotels represent 35% of Marriott’s signed development pipeline in Mexico. Brands including The Luxury Collection, Autograph Collection and Tribute Portfolio allow independent properties to join the group while retaining their individual identities.

Alejandro Acevedo, Marriott’s Regional Vice President of Development for the Caribbean and Latin America, said the company’s approach combines conversions, all-inclusive resorts, branded residences and hotels in regional business centres.

Recent conversion projects include Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun, an Autograph Collection All-Inclusive Resort, and the adults-only Paraiso de la Bonita, a Luxury Collection Resort in Riviera Maya.

Luxury and All-Inclusive Resorts Expand Along the Coast

Marriott added The St. Regis Costa Mujeres Resort, Cancún in June, following the May debut of The Westin Playa Vallarta, the brand’s first all-inclusive resort in Mexico.

Further coastal openings include Casa Nizuc, a Tribute Portfolio Resort, expected in November. An agreement with BlueBay Group will also introduce a Marriott Hotels all-inclusive resort in Riviera Maya.

Separately, Marriott plans to bring three properties operated by The Reef Resorts & Spa into Tribute Portfolio: The Reef Playacar, The Reef 28 and The Reef Coco Beach. Together, they will add 676 rooms to the brand’s all-inclusive pipeline and establish its presence in Playa del Carmen.

Growth Extends to Regional Business Destinations

Away from the coastal resorts, Marriott is adding hotels in manufacturing and trade centres serving both business and leisure travellers.

Recent openings include Sheraton León in April, Fairfield by Marriott San Luis Potosí Los Lagos in July and the milestone Courtyard by Marriott Torreón in August.

Upcoming properties include Hotel Boca Alameda, Mexico City, Autograph Collection; Delta Hotels by Marriott Chihuahua; and CASAMAYOR Hotel Hacienda, Autograph Collection.

Further developments are planned for 2027 across Chihuahua, Michoacán and Puebla, extending the company’s reach beyond Mexico’s established resort and major city markets.
