Park Hyatt to debut in Portugal with new Comporta resort and residences

Hyatt is bringing its Park Hyatt brand to Portugal for the first time, with plans for a luxury resort and branded residences on the Alentejo coast.

Park Hyatt Comporta and Park Hyatt Comporta Residences are expected to open in 2029 following agreements between Hyatt Hotels Corporation and Portuguese real estate developer Coporgest.

The project will be developed in Comporta, a coastal destination south of Lisbon known for its beaches, protected natural landscapes and increasingly prominent luxury hospitality market.

Current plans call for a relatively intimate 58-room hotel alongside private villas and branded residences, with the development positioned as a high-end leisure retreat within roughly an hour of Lisbon’s Humberto Delgado Airport.

“This location for a Park Hyatt hotel feels like a perfect match,” said Tamara Lohan MBE, Global Brand Leader – Luxury at Hyatt.

“Comporta has a rare combination of relaxed beach living, protected nature and creative spirit, with a sense of calm that has remained wonderfully intact.”

Park Hyatt Comporta planned with 58 rooms and suites

The hotel is currently expected to feature 58 guestrooms and suites, complemented by six two-bedroom private villas.

Facilities are planned to include swimming pools, restaurants, a wellness area and fitness centre, padel court and children’s club.

The resort will also target travellers interested in golf.

Park Hyatt Comporta will sit next to Troia Golf Course, an 18-hole, par-72 course designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. The coastal course covers approximately six hectares and offers views towards the Arrábida Mountains.

Another four golf courses can be reached within approximately 20 minutes of the property, according to Hyatt.

Comporta continues to attract luxury hospitality investment

Located on Portugal’s Atlantic coast in the Alentejo region, Comporta has developed a reputation as a more understated alternative to some of Europe’s established luxury beach destinations.

Its relatively undeveloped coastline, protected natural areas and proximity to Lisbon have helped attract growing international interest while maintaining a low-density tourism profile.

For Hyatt, the destination provides an opportunity to expand Park Hyatt’s European resort portfolio while entering Portugal with its flagship luxury brand.

“Bringing the Park Hyatt brand to Comporta reflects the shared ambition between Coporgest and Hyatt to create a landmark luxury destination,” said Sérgio Ferreira, CEO of Coporgest.

“Park Hyatt Comporta will combine a beautiful beachfront location, distinctive architecture and outstanding quality, reinforcing Portugal’s and Comporta’s ability to attract the world’s leading luxury hospitality brands.”

The property will join Park Hyatt hotels in European destinations including Paris, London, Milan, Vienna, Zurich and Istanbul, as well as Marrakech in North Africa.

28 Park Hyatt branded residences planned

Residential real estate will form a significant part of the Comporta development.

Park Hyatt Comporta Residences will include six villas and 22 apartments available for private ownership.

The residences will be integrated into the hotel’s operations, giving owners access to Park Hyatt services, facilities and property management while retaining the privacy of a private home.

“The Park Hyatt Comporta Residences will act as a natural extension of the surrounding coastline, serving as a tranquil, luxury retreat just south of Lisbon,” said Tina Necrason, Global Head of Branded Residential at Hyatt.

The project reflects the continued growth of branded residences within the luxury hotel sector, particularly in resort destinations where buyers are seeking privately owned properties combined with hotel-level services.

Another 80 residences planned within the wider development

Beyond the Park Hyatt-branded residences, the wider Comporta Beach Resort development will include another residential component operated by Coporgest.

Luxury Beach Residences by Coporgest will consist of 31 villas and 49 apartments.

These properties will also be available for private ownership and are expected to benefit from access to Park Hyatt Comporta’s amenities and services.

Combined, the wider development will therefore include more than 100 residential units across the Park Hyatt and Coporgest components.

Park Hyatt continues global expansion

The Comporta project forms part of a broader expansion of the Park Hyatt portfolio in both city and resort destinations.

New properties scheduled for 2026 include Park Hyatt Phu Quoc in Vietnam and Park Hyatt Riviera Maya in Mexico.

Further openings are planned for 2027, including Park Hyatt Mexico City, Park Hyatt Vancouver and Park Hyatt Taormina.

Park Hyatt Comporta is currently scheduled to follow in 2029, giving Hyatt a flagship luxury presence in one of Portugal’s fastest-emerging high-end leisure destinations.
