IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed an agreement for a 101-room Holiday Inn Resort in Luang Prabang, marking its planned entry into the northern Laos destination.
Scheduled to open in 2027, Holiday Inn Resort Luang Prabang Naluang Hill will be developed in partnership with Naluang International Resort and Hotel Limited. The signing, announced on 19 October, will extend IHG’s footprint beyond Vientiane, where it currently operates two hotels.
Hilltop resort near Luang Prabang’s historic centre
The property will sit on Naluang Hill, with views across Luang Prabang and access to its UNESCO World Heritage-listed Ancient Town.
Plans include 101 guestrooms, suites and villas, alongside four food and beverage venues, a swimming pool, fitness centre and spa. The resort will also offer more than 500 square metres of meeting space for small and medium-sized events, celebrations and corporate retreats.
For families, the hotel will introduce Holiday Inn’s Kids Stay & Eat Free programme as part of its resort offering.
Luang Prabang is known for its Buddhist temples, Lao and French colonial architecture, and riverside setting. Visitors can combine time in the historic centre with trips to Kuang Si Falls, Pak Ou Caves and Mount Phousi, as well as excursions on the Mekong River.
IHG sees potential in leisure travel and retreats
IHG cited improving transport connections and demand for cultural travel as factors behind the agreement. Luang Prabang is served by an international airport and high-speed rail links, providing options for travellers exploring Laos and the wider region.
“Beyond its strong leisure appeal, Luang Prabang is also benefiting from improving connectivity and growing demand for meetings, incentives and corporate retreats,” said Shi’ai Liang, Senior Director of Development for South East Asia & Korea at IHG Hotels & Resorts.
The resort’s planned meeting facilities will allow it to serve that market alongside holidaymakers.
Chen Yichao, Director of Naluang International Resort and Hotel Limited, said: “Together, we aim to create a charming hilltop resort that showcases the unique character of Luang Prabang, while catering to the evolving needs of today’s travellers, whether they are visiting for leisure, celebrations, corporate retreats or meetings.”
Expanding beyond Vientiane
IHG currently operates two hotels in Laos under the Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn & Suites brands, with a combined 471 rooms in Vientiane.
The Luang Prabang agreement will bring the company into a second destination in the country once the resort opens. A specific opening date within 2027 has not yet been announced.
