Ritz-Carlton to Make Brooklyn Debut with Residences in Historic Hotel Bossert

The Ritz-Carlton brand is coming to Brooklyn for the first time, with Marriott International and real estate developer SomeraRoad unveiling plans to transform the historic Hotel Bossert in Brooklyn Heights into a collection of luxury branded residences.

The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Brooklyn Heights will occupy the landmark 14-story building at 98 Montague Street, bringing a new residential use to a property that has been part of the neighborhood for more than a century.

Construction is expected to begin later in 2026, with completion currently scheduled for 2029.

Unlike a traditional Ritz-Carlton hotel, the Brooklyn Heights development will be a standalone residential property. It will become the 50th standalone residence in The Ritz-Carlton’s global development portfolio.

Historic Hotel Bossert to be restored

Originally opened in 1909, the Hotel Bossert was designed by New York architecture firm Helmle & Huberty in the Renaissance Revival style.

Over its history, the hotel hosted celebrities, business leaders and athletes and was notably the site of the Brooklyn Dodgers’ celebration after winning the 1955 World Series.

SomeraRoad acquired the property in 2025 and plans to preserve and restore many of its defining architectural elements as part of the conversion.

These include the building’s geometric brick façade, granite and limestone base, terra-cotta cornice and window details, arched double-height windows, cast-iron railings and distinctive lion’s head keystones.

“The Hotel Bossert has long stood as one of Brooklyn’s most iconic buildings, and we are honored to help write its next chapter,” said Ian Ross, Founder and Managing Principal of SomeraRoad.

The project brings together architects, interior designers, preservation specialists and hospitality partners, with the restoration intended to retain the building’s historic character while adapting it for contemporary residential use.

Ritz-Carlton expands branded residences portfolio

The development will combine privately owned residences with services and amenities associated with The Ritz-Carlton brand.

Planned features include a 24-hour attended lobby, dedicated residential services and spaces focused on wellness, leisure and private entertaining.

Owners will also have access to benefits across Marriott’s portfolio through ONVIA, the company’s recognition programme for owners of Marriott-branded residences.

“The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Brooklyn Heights is poised to further strengthen the leadership and legacy of The Ritz-Carlton Residences,” said Dana Jacobsohn, Marriott International’s Chief Development Officer, Global Mixed-Use and Luxury, U.S. & Canada.

The Brooklyn project is part of a broader expansion of branded residences by major international hospitality groups, extending luxury hotel brands into standalone residential developments that do not necessarily include an accompanying hotel.

Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group to open restaurant

The redevelopment will also introduce a new dining destination to Brooklyn Heights.

Union Square Hospitality Group, founded by restaurateur Danny Meyer, plans to open its first full-service restaurant in Brooklyn on the ground floor of the building.

The restaurant will be open beyond the residential community, while residents will have access to private entertaining and other culinary experiences associated with the venue.

Further details about the restaurant have not yet been announced.

Sales and marketing for The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Brooklyn Heights will be handled by SERHANT. New Development, with Ravi Kantha and the Kantha Team leading sales.

The residences are being developed by SomeraRoad and will operate under The Ritz-Carlton name through a licensing agreement with Marriott International.
