Hyatt Centric Sapporo opened on 3 October 2026, marking the brand’s arrival in Hokkaido with 216 rooms and suites in the centre of the island’s capital.
Occupying the upper floors of a mixed-use tower, the hotel sits beside the former Hokkaido Government Office Building, known as the Red Brick Building, and near Odori Park. An underground walkway provides access to Odori subway station, while JR Sapporo Station is approximately a 10-minute walk away.
The opening adds a new city-centre option for travellers visiting Sapporo or continuing to Hokkaido’s ski resorts, hot springs and national parks.
“We are thrilled to introduce the Hyatt Centric brand to Sapporo, a dynamic destination where every season reveals a new side of Hokkaido,” said Yuki Takimura, General Manager of Hyatt Centric Sapporo.
“Through an insider’s lens, we look forward to helping World of Hyatt members and guests discover local flavors, cultural traditions and seasonal experiences that make every stay unique.”
Rooms Inspired by Hokkaido’s Landscapes and History
The hotel’s design takes inspiration from Takeshiro Matsuura, the explorer and cartographer credited with naming Hokkaido, with a concept described as a modern “Northern Explorer’s Residence”.
Rooms and suites start at 36 square metres, with large windows overlooking Sapporo. Reclaimed wood, straw artworks and regional craft details reference Hokkaido’s natural surroundings and everyday life.
A wooden check-in counter made by a local artisan and a fireplace lounge carry the theme into the shared spaces.
Hokkaido Produce Shapes Two Dining Venues
On the 17th floor, Matsu Grill & Bar combines Hokkaido seafood and produce with wood-fired cooking and Mediterranean influences. An open kitchen forms the centre of the restaurant, which offers panoramic city views.
At ground level, Mr. Fish by Hyatt Centric Sapporo takes a more casual approach. Its fish and chips pairs seasonal white fish from the waters around Hokkaido with locally grown potatoes, alongside craft beer.
The café also serves fish burgers and churros, with takeaway options for guests heading out to explore the city.
The hotel’s “Local Insiders” team provides recommendations tailored to the season and guests’ interests. A seasonal map and daily suggestions highlight neighbourhood events, food and activities, from spring blossoms to winter outings.
