KLM will begin introducing free high-speed Wi-Fi on its intercontinental flights in mid-2027, extending complimentary internet access to passengers in all cabin classes. The Starlink-powered service will be rolled out in phases and will be available to Flying Blue members on equipped aircraft.
The airline announced the plans on its 107th anniversary, following the introduction of free Wi-Fi across most of its European fleet earlier in 2026.
Free access through Flying Blue
Passengers will need to log in with a Flying Blue account to use the service. Those who are not members can register before departure or through the onboard portal during their flight.
Once connected, passengers will have unlimited internet access for activities including email, web browsing, music streaming, gaming and watching films or series.
Access will depend on whether the aircraft has been fitted with the technology. KLM has not specified a completion date for the rollout or identified which intercontinental routes will receive it first.
Starlink to provide connectivity over oceans
KLM has selected Starlink’s low Earth orbit satellite network to deliver the service. The technology is designed to provide high-speed, low-latency internet over land, oceans and remote areas, supporting connectivity on long-haul routes.
“We are making a long-standing wish of our passengers a reality: fast, free Wi-Fi on intercontinental flights starting in mid-2027. This will allow passengers to stay connected even high above the ocean,” said KLM CEO Marjan Rintel.
“The introduction of free Wi-Fi is part of KLM’s continued efforts to provide its passengers with a comfortable, digitally connected travel experience.”
Long-haul rollout follows European launch
KLM has offered free, unlimited Wi-Fi on most of its European fleet since the beginning of 2026. The intercontinental programme will extend that offering to longer journeys, with access available across all cabins as aircraft are equipped.
For passengers travelling from mid-2027, the phased introduction means free Wi-Fi will become available gradually across the intercontinental network.
