NS Urges Passengers to Review or Cancel Nederland Dal Vrij Subscription After Summer Promotion

Dutch rail operator NS is encouraging passengers who subscribed to the Nederland Dal Vrij travel pass during this summer’s promotional campaign to review their subscription and cancel or modify it if they no longer plan to use it.

Nearly 400,000 travelers signed up for the discounted subscription, using it for leisure trips such as beach visits, museum outings, family visits and other domestic journeys across the Netherlands.

Nederland Dal Vrij is an NS Flex subscription that remains active until it is changed or canceled. After the first month, customers can cancel the subscription at any time and only pay for the days it was active. Changes and cancellations can be completed through Mijn NS on the NS website or mobile app.

Strong customer demand

The summer promotion attracted significant interest, with almost 400,000 subscriptions purchased. More than 300,000 remain active, while travelers have collectively completed 329 million kilometers of rail travel using the subscription.

According to NS, approximately 37% of subscribers had not previously held an NS subscription, suggesting the promotion encouraged new customers to travel by train.

The discounted offer was made possible through cooperation between NS, other Dutch rail operators and the Dutch government, which subsidized part of the subscription cost. Under the promotion, travelers paid significantly less than the regular monthly price of €127.95.

As this was the first time such a substantial discount had been offered on the subscription, no usage target had been established in advance. NS said the results of the campaign will be evaluated together with other rail operators and the Dutch government after the promotion concludes.

Check your subscription

NS recommends that customers log in to Mijn NS to verify which subscription is currently active. Travelers who no longer wish to continue using Nederland Dal Vrij can modify or cancel their subscription online in just a few steps.
