Finavia has brought all new parking and ground transport arrangements into use at Rovaniemi Airport, completing a project that began in spring 2025.
The redevelopment adds long-term car parking, a dedicated bus area and separate spaces for passenger pick-ups, drop-offs and taxis. The area allocated to private cars, buses and taxis has almost doubled to approximately 19,000 square metres.
Minor finishing and adjustment work will continue over the coming weeks.
New Parking for 130 Cars and 16 Buses
A new 4,000-square-metre parking area provides 130 long-term spaces, primarily serving passengers who drive to the airport before flying.
A separate area accommodates 16 buses, helping organise coach traffic outside the terminal.
Airport Manager Johan Juujärvi said construction was spread across two years so work could take place outside Rovaniemi’s busiest winter travel periods. The project was developed alongside the departures hall expansion carried out in 2025.
Separate Pick-Up and Drop-Off Areas
A dedicated drop-off area for departing passengers was created beside the airport’s main entrance during the terminal expansion.
This year’s changes add separate areas for people meeting arriving passengers and for taxis. Finavia says the layout is intended to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety.
Car rental operations will move to the parking area at the end of the passenger terminal. The airport currently has eight rental service points inside the terminal.
Passengers Retain Choice of Taxi Company
Finavia has agreements with Taksi Rovaniemi, Lähitaksi Rovaniemi and Menevä to provide taxi services at the airport following a public tender.
Contracted taxis use a dedicated area in front of the terminal, while other operators have a separate area. Finavia says the agreements help maintain taxi availability during both the winter peak and quieter summer months.
Passengers remain free to choose their taxi provider. Companies without a Finavia agreement can continue to collect and drop off customers at the airport.
