Lufthansa adds hot meals to Economy Class Onboard Delights menu

Lufthansa adds hot meals to Economy Class Onboard Delights menu

Lufthansa is expanding its onboard catering offer from September 1, 2026, introducing five hot meals for Economy Class passengers on short- and medium-haul flights and increasing the number of pre-order options available to long-haul Business Class travellers.

The new Economy Class meals will form part of Lufthansa’s Onboard Delights programme and will be available on continental flights lasting at least two hours.

Unlike other products in the Onboard Delights range, the hot dishes will only be available by pre-order. Passengers can place an order between four weeks and 24 hours before departure.

Five hot meals available for Economy passengers

The expanded menu will offer passengers a choice of five dishes:

  • Beef roulade with potato dumplings
  • Chicken teriyaki
  • Tortellini in tomato sauce with zucchini
  • Dönninghaus “Die Echte” currywurst
  • HANS IM GLÜCK cheeseburger

The beef roulade, chicken teriyaki and tortellini will be accompanied by dessert, while the currywurst will be served with a bread roll.

Lufthansa’s Onboard Delights concept was introduced in February 2023, offering Economy Class passengers on European short- and medium-haul services a selection of meals, snacks and beverages available for purchase.

Part of the range can already be ordered before departure, with the addition of hot dishes extending the pre-order concept to more substantial meals.

“With these hot meals, we’re expanding Onboard Delights to offer our passengers on longer continental flights an additional selection,” said Olaf Mauthe, Head of Hospitality Catering Management at Lufthansa.

“Pre-ordering guarantees our guests that their desired meal will be waiting for them on board – for a relaxed and predictable journey.”

Lufthansa expands Business Class meal pre-selection

Lufthansa is also making changes to its catering service for Business Class passengers travelling on long-haul routes.

Since August 2023, Business Class customers departing from Lufthansa’s Frankfurt and Munich hubs have been able to select their preferred main course before travelling.

From September 1, the pre-selection service will be extended to most Lufthansa long-haul flights returning to Germany.

Passengers will also have twice as many main-course options to choose from. The selection will increase from three to six dishes, with orders available from four weeks until 24 hours before departure.

The changes give passengers in both Economy and Business Class greater control over their onboard meal choice while allowing Lufthansa to know individual meal preferences before each flight.
