Catania Airport Extends Flight Suspension as Mount Etna Eruption Continues

Flight operations at Catania Airport remain suspended as volcanic activity from Mount Etna continues to impact airspace over eastern Sicily.

Airport authorities confirmed that the closure of Sector C1 has been extended, while Sector B3 has also been closed due to the ongoing eruption and prevailing wind conditions carrying volcanic ash into controlled airspace.

As a result, all arrivals and departures have been suspended until 11:00 a.m. on August 12.

Passengers scheduled to travel are advised to check the status of their flight directly with their airline before travelling to the airport.

Airport officials said further operational updates will be issued as the situation develops and airspace conditions are reassessed.
