Avani Queenstown to Open in September 2026 Following Major Hotel Transformation

Minor Hotels is preparing to open Avani Queenstown in September 2026, marking the lifestyle brand’s debut in Queenstown and its second property in New Zealand.

The hotel will become Avani’s New Zealand flagship and follows the opening of Avani Auckland Metropolis Residences, strengthening the brand’s presence across the country and the wider Australasian region.

Formerly known as Oaks Shores Resort, the lakefront property has undergone a major redevelopment, transforming it from a serviced apartment complex into a full-service lifestyle hotel.

New Lifestyle Hotel on Queenstown’s Lakefront

Avani Queenstown has been redesigned around a more social and experience-led concept, with updated interiors, flexible public spaces and locally inspired finishes.

The hotel will include areas for après-ski gatherings, private dining, celebrations and business or social events, while maintaining a strong connection to Queenstown’s surrounding landscape.

Its lakefront location is expected to appeal to both leisure travellers and guests visiting the destination for events, outdoor activities and longer stays.

Wellness and Fitness Facilities

Wellbeing will form a central part of the hotel experience.

Guests will have access to AvaniSpa, offering treatments and spaces for relaxation, as well as AvaniFit, the brand’s fitness concept designed for travellers who want to maintain an active routine during their stay.

The facilities are intended to support Queenstown’s year-round appeal as a destination for skiing, hiking, adventure travel and wellness-focused breaks.

Six to Midnight Dining Concept

The hotel’s main food and beverage venue, Six to Midnight, will operate throughout the day and focus on seasonal, locally sourced produce.

The restaurant will serve breakfast and lunch before transitioning into high tea, après-ski drinks and evening à la carte dining.

Minor Hotels plans to position the venue as a social destination for both hotel guests and Queenstown residents.

Avani Expands Across Australasia

Avani Queenstown will become the brand’s second property in New Zealand and follows the recent opening of Avani Mooloolaba Beach Hotel on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.

The additions form part of Avani’s broader expansion strategy across urban, coastal and resort destinations in Australasia.

Minor Hotels said Queenstown’s growing popularity as a year-round tourism destination made it a strong fit for the brand’s premium lifestyle offering.
