Prime Minister Fumio Kishida announced during an event in London that Japan’s health and government officials are currently considering relaxation of border control protocols starting June, in order to join G7 nations such as Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States, which have already relaxed entry regulations in order to boost foreign tourism.
Japan has “eased border control measures significantly” and aims to “introduce a smoother entry process similar to that of other G7 members”, Kishida explained.
As expected, the comments have generated excitement among the industry’s players, as the resuming of international tourism following the Covid-19 pandemic is “something we have waited over two years for and something that can’t come soon enough”, declared Simon King, a tour operator headquartered in Japan.
However, further details about the entry protocols as well a specific date for the aforementioned changes are yet to be announced by the officials.
