Lufthansa has won the World’s Best First Class Onboard Dining award at the 2026 Skytrax World Airline Awards in London. The recognition follows the introduction of a new First Class dining concept on flights departing from Germany in March 2026.
The awards draw on an international passenger survey covering more than 300 airlines. According to Lufthansa, this year’s survey included 24.8 million travellers from more than 100 countries.
New First Class Menus Offer Greater Flexibility
Lufthansa developed its First Class culinary offering with two-Michelin-starred chef Christoph Kunz and catering partner gategourmet.
The concept gives passengers a wider selection of dishes and more flexibility to put together their own menus. Alongside the food, the recognition highlights the role of cabin crews in preparing and serving meals on board.
Established features remain part of the experience, including Lufthansa’s signature caviar service and a gourmet breakfast selection.
Prestige Champagne and Monthly Wine Selections
Lufthansa has also added La Grande Dame by Veuve Clicquot as a permanent feature of its First Class champagne offering. The airline says this is the first time it has offered a prestige champagne on a permanent basis in the cabin.
The wine selection is newly curated each month by a team of specialists that includes four Masters of Wine.
Dining Forms Part of a Wider Service Update
The culinary changes fall under Lufthansa’s Future Onboard Experience programme, known as FOX, which is intended to improve the travel experience across all cabin classes.
The programme sits alongside investment in new aircraft, Allegris cabins and modernised lounges as part of the airline’s broader premium service initiative.
Lufthansa Airlines CEO Jens Ritter said the award suggested passengers were responding to those changes.
“This award motivates us to continue living up to our guests’ expectations of a premium airline,” Ritter said.
