Lufthansa A380 Debuts Giant “XXL Crane” Livery
Lufthansa has revealed a striking new Airbus A380 painted with an oversized crane motif as part of its 100th anniversary celebrations. The world’s largest passenger aircraft, registered D-AIMH, now sports a bold blue livery featuring a 47-metre stylised crane and the inscriptions “1926 | 2026” and “100”, reflecting a century since the airline’s founding.
The specially painted A380 recently landed at Munich Airport after being repainted in Shannon, Ireland, where a team of 35 technicians spent 34 days applying the design over more than 4,000 square metres of aircraft surface — roughly the size of 16 tennis courts. The aircraft is scheduled to begin regular service from Munich in March.
This A380 is the fourth Lufthansa aircraft to receive the special “100 Years” centenary livery. Earlier this year, an Airbus A350-900, a Boeing 787-9 and an Airbus A320neo were also unveiled in the anniversary colours. In the coming weeks, additional aircraft including a Boeing 747-8 and another A350-1000 will join the commemorative fleet.
Lufthansa says the anniversary liveries are being applied during regular repainting schedules or as part of new aircraft deliveries, helping to keep additional costs to a minimum while showcasing the airline’s heritage and global presence throughout its centennial year.
