Hyatt Enters Guyana With Atlantic Suites Hotel Ahead of $50 Million Hyatt Regency Development

Hyatt Enters Guyana With Atlantic Suites Hotel Ahead of $50 Million Hyatt Regency Development

Hyatt Hotels Corporation has expanded into Guyana for the first time, with Atlantic Suites Hotel in Georgetown joining the Hyatt portfolio as an affiliated hotel.

The move is the first stage of a larger development planned by RJR Investments & Holdings Inc., which will invest approximately $50 million to expand the property and transform it into Hyatt Regency Georgetown Guyana in 2028.

The project comes as Guyana continues to attract increased international business and investment, driving demand for internationally branded accommodation in the country’s capital.

Atlantic Suites Hotel Becomes Hyatt’s First Affiliated Hotel in Guyana

Located in Georgetown, Guyana’s capital and main commercial centre, Atlantic Suites Hotel is positioned primarily for business and extended-stay travellers.

The property is approximately six miles from Eugene F. Correia International Airport and provides access to government offices and Georgetown’s expanding business district.

Atlantic Suites currently has 80 guestrooms and suites, many featuring floor-to-ceiling windows with views of either the Atlantic Ocean or the Georgetown skyline. The hotel also includes a 24-hour fitness centre.

Guests can use additional facilities at the neighbouring Pegasus Hotel and Pegasus Corporate Business Center, which are also owned by RJR Investments & Holdings Inc.

These include approximately 36,000 square feet of meeting and event space, six food and beverage venues, an outdoor swimming pool and Aura Sky Lounge, offering panoramic views across Georgetown.

Cristiano Gonçalves, Vice President of Development, South America & the Caribbean at Hyatt, said:

“This debut in Guyana represents an exciting milestone in our strategic growth across the Latin America and the Caribbean. As the country’s economy continues to expand and international travel demand grows, we see significant opportunity to serve business and extended stay travelers with the trusted hospitality and care Hyatt is known for. Atlantic Suites Hotel establishes this important market in Hyatt’s portfolio while laying the foundation for the future Hyatt Regency experience and expanded World of Hyatt offerings in the years ahead.”

$50 Million Expansion Planned for Hyatt Regency Georgetown Guyana

RJR Investments & Holdings Inc. plans to construct a new tower next to the existing Atlantic Suites Hotel as part of an investment valued at approximately $50 million.

The new building is scheduled for completion in 2028 and will be connected to the existing hotel by a pedestrian bridge.

Once the development is completed, the two buildings will operate together as Hyatt Regency Georgetown Guyana.

Hyatt Regency Georgetown Guyana to Offer 240 Rooms

The completed Hyatt Regency property is expected to feature 240 guestrooms and suites, significantly increasing the hotel’s current capacity.

Plans for the expanded hotel also include:

  • A signature restaurant and market
  • A lobby bar
  • A rooftop bar
  • Meeting and event facilities
  • Expanded accommodation for business, leisure and group travellers

The redevelopment will introduce Hyatt’s full-service Hyatt Regency brand to Guyana and broaden the property’s appeal beyond its existing business and extended-stay market.

Robert Badal, CEO of RJR Investments & Holdings Inc., said:

“Guyana is experiencing an extraordinary period of growth and international interest, making this the ideal time to introduce the Hyatt brand to the country. Pegasus Hotel has been part of Georgetown’s hospitality landscape for decades. Joining the Hyatt portfolio allows us to build on that legacy while showcasing Guyana’s warm hospitality, vibrant culture and natural beauty to travelers from around the world. We are excited to begin this relationship with Hyatt and continue making a positive impact within the local Guyanese community as we look ahead to our future as Hyatt Regency Georgetown Guyana.”

Hyatt Expands in One of the World’s Fastest-Growing Economies

Hyatt’s arrival comes during a period of rapid economic expansion in Guyana, which has emerged as one of the world’s fastest-growing economies following the development of its offshore oil and gas sector.

The resulting increase in international investment and corporate activity has helped create new demand for accommodation, meetings and hospitality services in Georgetown.

Hyatt said the Atlantic Suites Hotel deal supports its broader strategy of expanding across Latin America and the Caribbean, including into emerging destinations where the group does not currently have a hotel.

Hyatt Place Georgetown Guyana Also Expected to Open in 2026

Atlantic Suites will not remain Hyatt’s only planned property in the country.

Later in 2026, Hyatt Place Georgetown Guyana is also expected to join the Hyatt portfolio.

The property is planned with 136 guestrooms, along with a rooftop bar, outdoor swimming pool and complimentary breakfast.

The two projects will give Hyatt a presence across different segments of Georgetown’s hotel market as international travel to Guyana continues to develop.

Hyatt Regency Georgetown to Join World of Hyatt in 2028

Atlantic Suites Hotel is currently operating as a Hyatt-affiliated property, with its full integration into the Hyatt Regency brand planned for 2028.

Following the transition, Hyatt Regency Georgetown Guyana is expected to participate in the World of Hyatt loyalty program.

Members will then be able to earn and redeem World of Hyatt points at the property, including across eligible stays, dining and wellbeing experiences.

The project will give Hyatt a full-service Hyatt Regency presence in Georgetown while adding another Caribbean and South American destination to the group’s international network.
