Fraport reported continued passenger growth across its airport network in July 2026, with Frankfurt Airport (FRA) welcoming approximately 6.2 million passengers, a 1.4% increase compared to the same month last year.
The growth came despite a reduction in flight operations, as airlines continued to operate fewer flights while deploying larger aircraft and achieving higher load factors.
Frankfurt Airport traffic
Aircraft movements at Frankfurt Airport declined 3.2% year-on-year to 41,286 takeoffs and landings, reflecting ongoing airline capacity adjustments. Total maximum takeoff weights (MTOWs) also slipped 0.8% to approximately 2.6 million metric tons.
Cargo volumes, however, continued to improve, with airfreight and airmail increasing 0.9% to 180,622 metric tons during the month.
Summer leisure travel remained the primary driver of passenger growth, with particularly strong demand for destinations in:
- Italy
- Spain
- Greece
- Croatia
On long-haul routes, traffic increased notably to Israel, China, and Brazil, while African destinations, particularly Kenya and South Africa, also recorded healthy demand.
International airports post strong results
Most airports within Fraport’s international portfolio also reported passenger growth in July.
Among the strongest performers:
- Ljubljana Airport (Slovenia): 208,638 passengers (+14.9%)
- Fortaleza and Porto Alegre (Brazil): 1.3 million passengers (+5.9%)
- Fraport’s 14 Greek airports: 6.9 million passengers (+5.4%)
- Burgas and Varna (Bulgaria): 871,379 passengers (+5.2%)
In Peru, Lima Airport handled approximately 2.3 million passengers, representing a slight 0.6% decline, while Antalya Airport in Türkiye recorded 5.6 million passengers, down 1.2% compared to July 2025.
Group-wide growth
Across all airports actively managed by Fraport, passenger traffic reached approximately 23.4 million travelers during July, representing a 2.2% year-on-year increase as international summer travel continued to support demand throughout the company’s global airport portfolio.
