Avinor Airports Welcome More Than 5.1 Million Passengers in July as International Travel Continues to Grow

Avinor’s airport network handled 5,135,009 passengers in July 2026, representing a 1.1% increase compared with the same month last year.

International travel continued to drive growth, with passenger numbers rising 2%, while domestic traffic increased 1% year over year.

Passenger Growth Continues in 2026

During the first seven months of the year, nearly 31 million passengers travelled through Avinor airports, an increase of 2% compared with the same period in 2025.

Year-to-date figures show:

  • Total passengers: 30,991,073 (+2.0%)
  • International passengers: +3%
  • Domestic passengers: +1%

Commercial aircraft movements also remained stable, reaching 53,836 flights in July, up 0.6% from a year earlier.

International Demand Remains Strong

Eirik Wæraas, Director of Traffic Development at Avinor, said:

“Despite concerns related to possible strikes in the aviation sector, it has been a busy month at our airports. More people travelled to and from international destinations than in the same month last year, and the summer has been characterised by strong demand for travel both to and from Norway. Domestic passenger numbers are also higher than last year.”

Bergen Leads Growth Among Major Airports

Traffic performance varied across Avinor’s largest airports.

Passenger numbers at Oslo Airport remained broadly unchanged from July 2025, while Stavanger Airport recorded a slight decline.

Growth was led by:

  • Bergen Airport, Flesland: +7%
  • Trondheim Airport, Værnes: +4%

Bergen Airport has now handled more than four million passengers so far this year.

Wæraas added:

“The growth at Bergen Airport continues, and there is strong interest in Western Norway as a destination among both Norwegian and international travellers. More than 4 million passengers have travelled to or from Bergen Airport, Flesland so far this year. That is 7 per cent more passengers than during the same period last year.”

Regional airports across Norway also reported increases in passenger traffic during the month.

Drone Operations Decline

Avinor registered 2,268 drone operations through the Ninox Drone system during July.

The lower figure compared with last year reflects the transition to a new drone registration platform rather than reduced drone activity.
