With a device that provides a realistic live “CT scan,” travellers may now bring in liquids bigger than 100ml in their hand baggage, along with laptops, tablets, and smartphones, all without having to remove them from their bags for manual checks.
After extensive testing, the new hand luggage screening gear for the Explosive Detection System, built to C3 standards, is ready for use.
This is the most stringent screening methodology for carry-on bags currently in use, and it will improve safety and convenience for travellers. By using X-ray scanners to acquire a computer scan of the luggage, the new devices improve security screening efficiency and speed by creating high-resolution 3D volumetric pictures with automatic analysis of potentially harmful compounds.
Formerly available only to frequent flyers, the new technology is now available to everyone using Terminal 1. With the exception of planes destined for the United States of America and Israel, which need further screening, the new equipment is now also being installed at Terminal 3 security checks.
