Air New Zealand and Air Chathams have expanded their interline partnership, giving travelers easier access to more regional destinations across New Zealand through a single booking.
Beginning 13 August 2026, the agreement adds the Chatham Islands and Whanganui to the existing partnership, allowing passengers to connect seamlessly with Air New Zealand’s domestic network while checking baggage through to their final destination.
Single-ticket travel to the Chatham Islands
For the first time, travelers flying to and from the Chatham Islands will be able to purchase a single itinerary connecting Air Chathams services with Air New Zealand’s domestic flights.
The expansion also introduces interline services between Auckland and Whanganui, building on the partnership launched earlier this year for flights between Auckland and Whakatāne.
Eligible connecting itineraries will be available through Air New Zealand and participating travel agents.
Supporting regional communities
The airlines said the expanded partnership is designed to improve connectivity for regional communities by making travel simpler for residents, businesses and visitors.
Improved access is expected to support tourism, regional economic development and easier access to essential services, education and healthcare across New Zealand.
The announcement also coincides with the completion of the new terminal at Inia William Tuuta Memorial Airport, providing a modern gateway to the Chatham Islands and supporting future growth in tourism and regional aviation.
Expanded interline routes
From 13 August 2026, the partnership includes:
- Auckland – Chatham Islands
- Wellington – Chatham Islands
- Christchurch – Chatham Islands
- Auckland – Whanganui
The previously launched Auckland – Whakatāne interline service remains in operation.
Passengers booking eligible itineraries will be able to travel on a single ticket with baggage checked through to their final destination.
