Due to the 41 confirmed Zika cases in singapore, Taiwan’s Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has raised the travel alert notice at Level 2
With the cases spreading among Aljunied Crescent and Sims Drive areas in the city state, fear of the virus spreading across Singapore raises, as the CDC had issued a Level 2 alert, especially important for pregnant women and the ones aiming to get pregnant.
*The Level 1 travel warning = advises vigilance and health precautions
The Level 2 travel warning = advises high caution and high degree of preventive measures
The Level 3 travel warning = warns against all travel to or from an affected destination
Health officials advise travelers in the region to use the “2226 Formula” to prevent transmission of the virus after finishing their visit. According to the formula, women aiming to become mothers should avoid pregnancy for two more months after their return, no matter if they develop or not suspicious Zika symptoms. Men without symptoms are advised to use condoms when having sex also, when returning from an affected area, to avoid unnecessary spreading of the virus. Men who develop Zika symptoms are urged to avoid sex for six more months.
Currently, the Level 2 Zika virus alert issued by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention applies for 58 countries and regions, including Asian countries like Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam and Indonesia.
