Russia’s ban on commercial flights to Egypt could last at least several months, said on Tuesday the head of the Kremlin administration, Sergei Ivanov, Reuters reports.
The prohibition will be long-term. Nobody can say exactly how long, but it will be at least several months, as Sergei Ivanov declared to the journalists, news agency Tass reported. He said it would be impossible for the Egyptian authorities to ensure an improvement in the level of security within a month.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has banned commercial flights to Egypt for fear that a bomb placed by terrorists can repeat the 31 October tragedy in the Egyptian Sinai peninsula that killed all 224 people on board. Almost all the victims were Russian citizens.
Russian Deputy adviser Arkady Dvorkovich said after Monday’s meeting of the government, that the government is currently examining the situation regarding flight safety worldwide. There are increased risks in those countries that are involved in various conflicts, is a situation well known, added Dvorkovici. Russian Deputy Prime Minister also held to emphasize that the ban on flights in Egypt is not related to air operations which Russia began on 30 September in Syria.
