Wizz Air Expands Venice Base With New Aircraft and Routes
Wizz Air is expanding its operations at Venice Marco Polo Airport with the addition of a fourth aircraft and the launch of five new routes, strengthening the airline’s presence in North-East Italy.
The airline announced that a new Airbus A321neo will be based in Venice starting in September 2026. The additional aircraft will increase capacity by around 500,000 seats and is expected to create around 40 direct jobs, adding to the more than 120 Wizz Air employees already based at the airport. The expansion is being developed in cooperation with the SAVE Group, which manages Venice Airport.
As part of the expansion, Wizz Air will launch five new routes connecting Venice with key destinations in Italy and Spain. Flights to Bilbao and Malaga will begin on 14 September 2026, followed by Alicante and Seville on 15 September 2026. A new domestic service between Venice and Naples will start on 1 December 2026.
The Venice–Naples route will operate with 11 weekly flights, while Bilbao and Malaga will each have four weekly frequencies. Alicante and Seville will operate three weekly flights.
With the new additions, Wizz Air will operate 26 routes from Venice to destinations across 16 countries. The network already includes cities across Europe and the Mediterranean, such as Athens, Budapest, Kraków, Warsaw, London Luton, and several destinations in Spain.
Since launching its first route from Venice to Bucharest in 2011, the airline has carried more than 3.8 million passengers through the airport. Prior to the latest announcement, Wizz Air planned to offer around 2.5 million seats from Venice in 2026.
The expansion forms part of the airline’s broader growth strategy in Italy. In 2026, Wizz Air plans to offer approximately 27 million seats in the country, operating a fleet of 35 aircraft across six bases including Catania, Naples, Rome, Palermo, Milan and Venice.
Airport operator SAVE Group said the additional aircraft and new routes will significantly expand Venice Airport’s international connectivity and strengthen tourism flows to Venice and the Veneto region.
