Korean Air will begin offering free high-speed Starlink Wi-Fi on September 15, 2026, becoming the first full-service airline in East Asia to introduce the satellite-based connectivity service.
The initial rollout will cover four newly retrofitted widebody aircraft: three Airbus A350-900s and one Boeing 777-300ER. These aircraft will operate a mix of medium- and long-haul services to the Americas, Europe and Southeast Asia, as well as selected shorter routes.
Korean Air plans to progressively install Starlink across its in-service fleet, with the rollout scheduled to be completed by the end of 2027.
Free high-speed internet in flight
Unlike Korean Air’s existing paid connectivity service, access to Starlink will be complimentary for passengers aboard equipped aircraft.
Starlink uses a constellation of satellites in low-Earth orbit to provide broadband internet with significantly lower latency than traditional satellite systems.
According to Korean Air, the service will support activities that typically require relatively high bandwidth, including HD video and music streaming, online gaming, web browsing and cloud-based applications.
Passengers will therefore be able to use their connected devices for both entertainment and work during flights.
Voice and video calls, however, will remain restricted. Korean Air said the limitation is intended to maintain a comfortable cabin environment for passengers.
A350 and Boeing 777 lead the rollout
Korean Air is beginning the programme with aircraft that have recently undergone cabin retrofits.
Three Airbus A350-900s and a Boeing 777-300ER will be the first aircraft to offer the new service when it launches on September 15.
Passengers travelling on aircraft that have not yet received Starlink equipment will continue to have access to Korean Air’s existing paid in-flight Wi-Fi service during the transition.
The airline has not yet provided a detailed aircraft-by-aircraft installation schedule, but expects Starlink connectivity to progressively reach its operating fleet through 2027.
First full-service airline in East Asia with Starlink
The launch will make Korean Air the first full-service carrier in East Asia to introduce Starlink connectivity, according to the airline.
The project forms part of a broader fleet modernisation programme as Korean Air updates both its aircraft and onboard passenger experience.
With installation scheduled to continue through the end of 2027, high-speed connectivity is set to become an increasingly standard feature across Korean Air’s international network.
