IHG Hotels & Resorts is expanding its presence in Malaysia with the signing of voco Muar, the first internationally branded hotel to open in the historic riverside town of Muar, Johor.
Developed in partnership with KCC Hotel (Muar) Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of KCC Holdings Group, the 107-room hotel is already under construction and is expected to welcome its first guests later this year.
The signing also marks IHG’s debut in Muar, continuing the company’s strategy of expanding into emerging destinations beyond Malaysia’s largest cities.
First International Hotel Brand in Muar
voco Muar will be located within KCC City Business Park, a mixed-use development owned by KCC Holdings Group.
Known for its colonial architecture, riverside setting and well-established food scene, Muar has become an increasingly popular domestic tourism destination while also serving as one of Malaysia’s major manufacturing centres.
IHG expects the hotel to attract both leisure travellers exploring southern Malaysia and business visitors travelling to the region’s industrial sector.
Premium Facilities Planned
The hotel will offer 107 guestrooms alongside a range of lifestyle and business facilities.
Plans include multiple food and beverage outlets, meeting and event spaces, a grand ballroom, an infinity pool and a fitness centre, positioning the property as one of the town’s leading hospitality destinations.
Muar is located around 40 minutes by road from Malacca, making the hotel a convenient base for travellers exploring the region.
voco Continues Rapid Expansion
The signing reflects the continued global growth of voco hotels, IHG’s fastest-growing premium brand.
The brand currently operates 137 hotels worldwide, with recent openings across Asia including voco Bangkok Surawong, voco Bandung Setiabudi and voco Scenia Bay Nha Trang.
In Malaysia, voco Muar will become the country’s second voco hotel, following the opening of voco Kuching earlier this year.
IHG Expands Across Malaysia
IHG currently operates 13 hotels in Malaysia, with another eight properties under development across several brands.
The pipeline includes the future Malaysian debut of both Regent Hotels & Resorts and Vignette Collection, as the company continues expanding its luxury, lifestyle and premium portfolio throughout the country.
