ICAO Supports Cabin Crew On International Flight Attendants Day

This year, ICAO is putting special effort into helping flight attendants cope with difficult customers, as cabin attendants play a crucial role in addressing this problem.
Flight attendants not only play a crucial part in ensuring the safety and security of flights, but they also help make flights more eco-friendly.
And this year, ICAO reaffirms its aim of assisting flight attendants in all aspects of their work with the occasion of the International Flight Attendant Day (May 31), and highlights the crucial part that flight attendants may have in promoting the enforcement of ICAO safety, security, and sustainability guidelines.
To prevent incidents that might compromise safety, security, and on-board regulation, ICAO has created instruments that States can utilize to guarantee that offenders are held responsible. To help flight attendants avoid and deal with disruptive customers, the International Civil Aviation Organization has published the Cabin Crew Safety Training Manual (Doc 10002).
Moreover, the organisation urges the States to endorse the Montréal Protocol of 2014 in order to considerably enhance their capacity to expand their jurisdiction over significant acts and offences. Additionally, the Manual on the Legal Aspects of Unruly and Disruptive Passengers (ICAO Doc 10117) offers direction on disciplinary and legal measures against unruly incidents. The states are also tasked with educating employees and raising public awareness of the repercussions of improper behaviour.
By taking these measures, the carriers can reduce the number and severity of incidents involving rowdy or disruptive passengers, making for a more pleasant trip for everyone on board.
ICAO is also working on new recommendations to help airlines and flight crews deal with disruptive passengers in the wake of the recent pandemic and prepare for future challenges.
