Frankfurt Airport's New Sky Line People Mover Suspended
Frankfurt Airport's newly launched Sky Line people mover, which connects Terminals 1, 2, and 3 along a 5.6-kilometer route, has been temporarily suspended for technical inspections and adjustments following issues identified during its first weeks of high-volume operations.
and adjustments following issues identified during its first weeks of high-volume operations.
The system, which was handling up to 25,000 passengers per day, requires inspection and optimization work across its vehicles and supporting systems. Siemens Mobility technicians are working alongside Fraport AG specialists to identify and resolve the causes of the disruptions, with the suspension expected to last a couple of weeks.
"Reliable and stable operation of the system is our highest priority. We take the current challenges very seriously and are working closely with our partner Siemens to resolve the causes of the disruptions," said Alexander Heinrich, Operations Manager for the Sky Line people mover at Fraport AG.
During the suspension, a replacement shuttle bus service of up to 20 vehicles will operate between terminals every two to three minutes during the day, dropping off and picking up passengers at the arrivals level in front of each terminal. Between 23:00 and 05:00, buses will run every ten minutes. An airside shuttle of up to five buses is also available for transfer passengers moving between terminals without exiting the secure zone. Service staff will be on hand to assist travelers, who are advised to allow extra time for inter-terminal transfers.
The original Sky Line people mover connecting Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 remains fully operational and is unaffected by the suspension.
