Danish State Completes Acquisition of Copenhagen Airports A/S

The Danish State has officially completed its acquisition of a controlling stake in Copenhagen Airports A/S, marking a major shift in ownership of Denmark’s primary international airport.

 

The deal follows approval from the European Commission on 16 July 2025, which cleared the way for the government to move forward. With all conditions now fulfilled, the Ministry of Finance has confirmed the acquisition is finalized as of today.

As a result of the transaction, the Danish State now owns approximately 98.6% of the company’s shares. The remaining shares are held by private minority investors.

said Lars Nørby Johansen, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Copenhagen Airports A/S.
“It is crucial to have a responsible and long-term ownership group that guarantees the airport’s continued positive contribution to the Danish economy.”

Copenhagen Airports A/S, which operates Copenhagen Airport (CPH) – one of the largest workplaces in Denmark – will now convene an extraordinary general meeting to elect new board members, reflecting the updated ownership structure.

The move is widely seen as a strategic decision to ensure national control over a critical piece of Denmark’s transport infrastructure and international connectivity.
