Brussels Airport opens parking hub with EV charging and solar power
Brussels Airport has opened a new multi-storey parking facility designed to centralise car rental services while supporting its long-term sustainability strategy.
Located directly opposite the drop-off zone and within walking distance of the terminal, the eight-floor building provides more than 2,500 parking spaces for car hire companies and airport staff. From March 29, all rental services and offices will be consolidated in this single location, improving convenience for passengers.
Sustainability was a key focus of the project. The facility features 6,000 square metres of rooftop solar panels, expected to generate around 1,150 MWh of electricity annually. To ensure aviation safety, the panels are fitted with a non-reflective coating to prevent glare affecting pilots.
In addition, the car park includes 650 electric vehicle charging points, supporting the airport’s push towards electrification.
The construction also followed circular economy principles, with materials from the previous parking structure largely reused either on-site or across the airport.
The project forms part of Brussels Airport’s broader “Hub 3.0” investment plan, aimed at modernising infrastructure and improving multimodal transport integration. Future developments include a pedestrian bridge linking the parking facility directly to the terminal, as well as plans to expand the arrivals hall and create an intermodal hub connecting rail, tram, bus, cycling and car transport.
The new facility marks a significant step in enhancing both passenger experience and environmental performance at one of Europe’s key aviation hubs.
