London Luton Airport has launched a new online journey planner designed to help passengers compare public transport options when travelling to and from the airport.
The platform covers rail, bus and coach services as well as road directions, allowing travellers to compare routes based on their starting point, connections and preferred journey times.
The airport says the tool is part of a wider effort to make public transport easier to use and encourage passengers to choose alternatives to private cars for airport journeys.
New tool compares train, bus and coach journeys
The journey planner brings different ground transport options into a single search, helping passengers identify routes based on factors including travel time and required connections.
London Luton Airport is already connected to central London by several public transport options.
The Luton Airport Express provides journeys from London St Pancras International to the airport terminal in around 30 minutes, using rail services to Luton Airport Parkway followed by the electrically powered Luton DART.
The DART connects the railway station with the airport terminal in less than four minutes.
LLA said the new planner complements its work with rail, bus and coach operators to increase the proportion of airport journeys made by public transport.
“These initiatives, including the launch of our new online journey planner, share a common goal of encouraging passengers to make more sustainable choices when travelling to and from London Luton Airport,” said Oliver Jaycock, Director of Corporate Affairs at London Luton Airport.
10,000 National Express coach fares available for £2
Alongside the journey planner, London Luton Airport is partnering with National Express on a promotion offering up to 10,000 one-way coach tickets for £2.
The promotion covers services from nine London pick-up locations, including Victoria, Baker Street, Paddington, Marble Arch, St John’s Wood, Finchley Road and Golders Green.
National Express operates 49 direct daily services covered by the initiative, with connections available around the clock.
The discounted tickets can be booked between September 15 and October 31, 2026, for journeys taken between September 15 and December 10.
Passengers must book at least 14 days before travelling, and the £2 offer applies only to eligible one-way journeys from London to London Luton Airport.
Airport expands public transport initiatives
The National Express promotion follows another public transport initiative introduced by Luton Airport during the summer.
Under the month-long Fly and Ride programme, passengers presenting a valid printed or digital boarding pass were able to travel free on direct Arriva and Stagecoach buses serving the airport.
LLA says the programmes are intended to address both the convenience and cost of using public transport for the first and final stages of an air journey.
“Working closely with bus, coach and rail operators, we are focused on making public transport more accessible, affordable and attractive,” Jaycock said.
“The journey planner is another practical step in helping passengers plan their trips with confidence, making it quicker and easier to compare routes and identify the most convenient public transport for their journey.”
Luton continues focus on lower-carbon airport access
Improving surface transport is also part of LLA’s wider sustainability strategy.
The airport has renewed its Level 4 status under the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme and has been working to reduce emissions associated with its operations and passenger journeys.
London Luton is one of the UK’s busiest airports and is served by airlines including easyJet, Wizz Air, Ryanair, Jet2 and TUI.
For passengers travelling from central London, the airport’s combination of rail, DART, coach and bus connections provides several alternatives to travelling by private car or taxi.
The newly launched journey planner is intended to make those options easier to compare before passengers begin their journey.
