The inaugural flight will be the first ever direct connection between Manchester and Algeria, and it makes Manchester the only UK airport outside London with a direct link to the Algerian capital. Flights will operate on Tuesdays and Sundays aboard Air Algérie’s Boeing 737 fleet, with return fares starting from £263.43.
The route carries significance beyond tourism. Algiers serves as a connecting hub for onward travel across Africa, with connections to Johannesburg, Abuja, Dakar, and Douala — meaning the service opens up easier access to the African continent for the significant Algerian and broader African communities living across the North of England.
Air Algérie becomes the fourth African carrier operating from Manchester, joining Royal Air Maroc, Egyptair, and Ethiopian Airlines. Passengers will also benefit from Manchester’s newly upgraded Terminal 2, which has undergone a £1.3 billion investment.
Manchester Airport Chief Commercial Officer Stephen Turner emphasised the social as well as commercial value of the route, describing it as a link that will make a real difference to thousands of people reconnecting with family and friends across Africa.
Air Algérie’s UK and Ireland General Manager Madjid Terghini highlighted the route’s importance for the Algerian community in the UK, noting that the Algiers hub also provides onward access to destinations across Africa and Asia for both leisure and business travellers.
British nationals travelling to Algeria are required to obtain a visa in advance through the Algerian Consulate General in the UK.
