Underwater hotel residence in Maldives will soon be opened

News

Conrad Maldives Rangali Island announces “world’s first” under-the-sea hotel residence will be opened at the end of this year.

Last week we’ve presented you the world’s first luxury space hotel, something that many people have been craving for a very long time. This week, we’re changing the direction and going underwater instead.

Although it’s true that the sleeping underwater phenomenon is not something new, as there are several luxury hotels around the world providing sleeping quarters located underwater, none of them will resemble the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island, they say. Most hotels that have underwater rooms are located in man-made aquariums, which will not be the case for this hotel residence in the Maldives.

More about the residence

Constructions for the Conrad’s villa have already begun and M.J. Murphy Ltd is the one that manages the erection of this hotel residence. It will sit at 16’4’’ (around 5 m) below the ocean surface and will have mesmerizing landscapes. The name of the residence is The Muraka, where ‘muraka’ in the local language in the Maldives, Dhivehi, means ‘coral’. The name was chosen in reference to the incredible natural marine environment that is found in the Maldives waters surrounding the suit.

As far as the price is concerned, the starting rate is estimated at about $50,000 per night. However, considering that there’s a chance of seeing sharks swimming above your bed in the middle of the night, it is for sure that this hotel is not recommended for the faint of heart.

The due time for completion is November 2018 and is believed to be the first under-the-sea residence in the world. The villa will have a bar, a gym, an ocean-facing bathtub and infinity pool, as well as an entire bedroom floor located under the ocean level, where tourists will have a wide view of the Indian Ocean.

The floor below the ocean is connected to the top level of the vial by a spiral staircase. While the undersea level will occupy a little over 100 square meters, the top level will measure around 550 square meters. Above the Indian Ocean, the villa will provide a relaxation deck, facing the sunrise.

The resort’s second underwater architecture project

Stefano Ruzza, general manager of Conrad Maldives Rangali Island, said several days ago that they are excited to welcome their first guests who want to have an astonishing seascape of the Maldives. The company has worked very hard to ensure the sleeping underwater phenomenon will take tourists to a completely new level. The Muraka will be able to accommodate around nine tourists.

The Muraka is the second venture of Conrad Hotels & Resorts in under-the-sea technology and architecture. Their first big project is entitled the Ithaa and is an undersea restaurant located in the Maldives. This restaurant opened more than 13 years ago and was erected by the same design consultancy company from New Zealand that now deals with the Muraka.
