Istanbul makes it into Michelin’s guide

53 restaurants in the city have entered the prestigious Michelin’s culinary guide.
The success is the result of the collaboration between the Culture and Tourism Ministry and the Türkiye Tourism Promotion and Development Agency (TGA), and is expected to positively impact the tourism sector.
Istanbul is the 38th global destination to be included the Michelin Guide. Izmir is also considered to enter the guide in the following years.
Fatih Tutak’s “Turk” in the Şişli district was granted two Michelin stars for its “exceptional cuisine” and “a modern and sophisticated stage for gourmets looking for typically Turkish flavours.”
“The culinary preparations, which often feature delicate sour and smoked notes, the chef’s signature, are forthright, precise and more importantly, express the chef’s fondness of his region and his roots,” the guide quotes.
Four other restaurants received one star. Among them, Araka restaurant in Yeniköy.
“On the menu, chef Zeynep Pınar Taşdemir creates a highly personal and audacious cuisine with a focus on seasonal vegetables and herbs,” says the guide.
The Michelin Guides, first published in 1900, rates the quality of the restaurant’s food by offering stars and reviews for the world’s most exclusive eateries, varying from zero to three stars based on five criteria: ingredient quality, cooking techniques, chef personality, value for money and consistency. Interior decor, table setting and service quality of the restaurants are awarded “covers”, which are symbols representing the fork and spoon.
