Helsinki Airport expands ticketless parking

Airlines & Airports

Helsinki Airport is expanding its ticketless parking system as part of ongoing efforts to improve the travel experience for passengers.

Airport operator Finavia announced that ticketless parking will be introduced in additional areas, including the P3 and P5 parking halls and the P4 outdoor parking area. The rollout will begin in April and is expected to be completed by May 2026.

The system uses camera-based license plate recognition to automatically identify vehicles at entry and exit points, removing the need for physical parking tickets. Barriers will open automatically once a vehicle is recognized, allowing for faster and more convenient access.

Upon returning, drivers can pay for parking at a machine or at the exit by entering their license plate number. After payment, the barrier will open automatically. Cash payments will still be available at the airport’s information desk.

The move builds on existing ticketless parking already in place at Helsinki Airport’s P1 Premium and P2 facilities. Finavia said the upgrade is part of its broader strategy to modernize ground services and respond to customer feedback.

As part of the changes, paper receipts will also be phased out in the newly upgraded areas. Instead, customers will be able to download digital receipts via QR code or retrieve them online within seven days.

Finavia continues to recommend booking parking in advance to secure availability and benefit from better pricing, while also ensuring a smoother overall experience.
