George Kallimasias Named New CEO of Athens International Airport from February 2026
After nearly two decades of transformative leadership, Yiannis Paraschis will step down as CEO of Athens International Airport (AIA) on January 31, 2026. He will be succeeded by George Kallimasias, the airport’s current Chief Strategy Officer, effective February 1, 2026.
The Board of Directors unanimously approved Kallimasias’s appointment during its October 31 meeting, following a proposal by majority shareholder AviAlliance and recommendations in line with corporate governance principles.
Paraschis joined AIA in 1996 and served as CEO for 19 years—longer than any other in the airport’s history. Under his leadership, AIA became one of Europe’s top airports, this year serving 34 million passengers and demonstrating operational and financial excellence.
Key milestones during his tenure include:
-
Successfully navigating major crises, including Greece’s financial crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic.
-
Securing a 20-year extension of the airport concession.
-
Leading AIA’s listing on the Athens Exchange.
-
Advancing a comprehensive sustainability strategy.
-
Launching AIA’s next major expansion phase.
Paraschis also held prominent international roles, including President of ACI EUROPE and ACI World, and will continue to contribute to AIA as a strategic advisor and board member of World Airport Partners (WAP).
George Kallimasias brings more than 25 years of experience at AIA. Since 1999, he has held key roles and led critical initiatives, including:
-
The 20-year concession extension
-
AIA’s public listing
-
Infrastructure investment plans
-
Strengthening corporate governance
As CEO, Kallimasias aims to guide AIA into a new phase of growth, innovation, and sustainability, with a focus on operational excellence and economic impact.
“With confidence in AIA’s people and a clear vision for the future, I am committed to building on our strong foundations,” said Kallimasias. “Together, we will reinforce Athens Airport’s status as a global benchmark for excellence.”
Board Support
Chairman Michail Kefalogiannis praised both leaders, calling Paraschis’s contribution “exceptional” and expressing full confidence in Kallimasias’s ability to continue AIA’s successful trajectory.
As AIA looks to the future, this transition marks a seamless evolution in leadership and a continued commitment to excellence, sustainability, and connectivity for Greece and beyond.
