Wizz Air to open new base at Turin Airport

Airlines & Airports

Wizz Air has announced plans to open a new operational base at Turin Airport, marking its seventh base in Italy and 40th globally.

The base is set to launch on September 14, 2026, with one aircraft, followed by a second aircraft from October 25. The expansion will significantly increase capacity, adding around 500,000 seats per aircraft annually and strengthening both domestic and international connectivity.

The move is expected to create around 80 direct jobs and up to 700 indirect roles, supporting economic growth in the Piedmont region.

As part of the expansion, Wizz Air will introduce seven new routes from Turin, including destinations such as Barcelona, Valencia, Madrid, Malaga and Bilbao, alongside enhanced domestic connections to Rome and Naples. The airline will also increase frequencies on existing routes, including Palermo.

With the new base, Wizz Air will operate 16 routes across eight countries from Turin in 2026, offering nearly 1.3 million seats. The airline said the investment reflects its commitment to the Italian market, where it continues to expand its presence with a fleet of Airbus A321neo aircraft.

Wizz Air carried more than 450,000 passengers from Turin in 2025 and has transported over 3 million passengers through the airport since launching operations there in 2004.

Company executives said the new base will strengthen connectivity in northern Italy, improve access to key European destinations and support both tourism and business travel.
