US and Cuba resume commercial airline connections
The two countries' officials have finally reached an understanding about resuming commercial airline travel links
According to The Associated Press both sides negotiators met and informally agreed on resuming airline travel last Wednesday in Washington D.C.
Despite former Cold War adversaries statute, the agreement between the two countries marks a moment that can become the beginning of more relaxed political and economical relations.
Jeffrey DeLaurentis, head of U.S. Embassy in Havana, greets President Obama’s policy regarding Cuba, who recently changed air travel restrictions to loosen economic embargoes.
“In that regard we have seen an increase in authorized travel by U.S. citizens by over 50 percent”, DeLaurentis declared.
President Obama also made statements for Yahoo News on the last progress:
“I am very much interested in going to Cuba, but I think the conditions have to be right. My hope is that sometime next year we look at the conditions there and we say, ‘You know what? Now would be a good time to shine a light on progress that’s been made, but also maybe to nudge the Cuban government in a new direction.”
Direct mail service is also on the resuming list, as the two countries experienced 52 years of postal stoppage.
