Star Alliance opens new connection centre at Los Angeles Airport

Airlines & Airports

Star Alliance has opened a new Star Connection Centre (SCC) at Los Angeles International Airport, enhancing support for passengers transferring between member airlines.

The centre focuses on assisting travellers with tight connections, particularly those at risk of missing onward flights due to delays. Dedicated teams monitor flight schedules in real time and proactively identify affected passengers, offering support such as fast-tracking through the airport and escorting them to departure gates.

The initiative is part of Star Alliance’s broader strategy to deliver a more seamless travel experience across multiple airlines within its network.

Connection centres have been in operation for over a decade and play a key role in coordinating both passenger and baggage transfers at major hubs. In addition to Los Angeles, similar facilities are located in cities including Frankfurt, Chicago, Toronto and Brussels, while baggage-focused centres operate in hubs such as Houston, Newark and San Francisco.

At LAX, 16 Star Alliance member airlines operate more than 2,000 weekly flights to over 80 destinations worldwide, making the airport a critical hub for international connectivity.

The new centre strengthens coordination between airlines and aims to reduce missed connections, improving overall passenger experience across the alliance’s global network.
