Jet2 Ranked Second Most Fuel-Efficient Airline in Europe

Jet2 has been ranked as the second most carbon-efficient airline in Europe, according to Cirium's 2025 Flight Emissions Review — an independent global study assessing the emissions performance of the world's 100 largest passenger airlines.

The airline achieved 57.9 grams of CO₂ per Available Seat Kilometre in 2025, a standard industry metric that measures emissions relative to passenger capacity. That figure also represents a 3.1 percent reduction in emissions intensity compared to the previous year, reflecting what Jet2 describes as consistent, incremental progress rather than one-off gains.

The Cirium analysis uses the EmeraldSky methodology, applied consistently across carriers of different sizes, business models, and geographies, and independently assured by PwC under ISAE 3000 standards — giving the rankings a level of credibility that airline self-reporting alone cannot provide.

Looking ahead, Jet2 expects its efficiency metrics to improve further as it takes delivery of 155 Airbus A321neo aircraft on order. The neo generation delivers more than 20 percent better fuel efficiency compared to previous-generation jets, meaning the airline's carbon intensity per passenger is set to fall further as the new fleet enters service.

Head of Sustainability Paul Southall welcomed the recognition but used it to make a broader point: that real emissions reductions today are being driven by fleet choices, aircraft configuration, and day-to-day operations — not just long-term bets on sustainable aviation fuel. He also highlighted the value of independent benchmarking like Cirium's for transparency and accountability across the industry.
