Qatar Airways will offer a daily direct flight from Edinburgh Airport to Hamad International Airport in Doha, starting with May 1st 2015.
The official statement arrives just half a year later after the acclaimed launch of a five-weekly service on the Edinburgh – Doha route. The decision to increase frequency emphasizes Qatar Airways’ commitment to this service route.
A Boeing 787 Dreamliner will operate the daily QR027 inbound service and QR028 outbound service. Now, the passengers will have a greater opportunity to access the 145 worldwide destinations served by Qatar Airways through its most recent hub – Hamad International Airport.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner’s configuration comprises of 2 cabins, 22 seats in Business Class and 232 Economy Class seats. Each seat has a 10.5-inch television screen and offers plenty in-flight entertainment choices, which you can enjoy while experiencing the airline’s world class service.
Flying from Edinburgh, the service has this year allowed superior travel times from Scotland to international destinations with just a single international transfer through the new Hamad International Airport in Doha, without any other domestic transfer within the UK.
Akbar Al Baker, Qatar Airways Group chief executive, said: “We are excited to offer more options and flexibility to customers wishing to fly to and from Edinburgh.
“Offering daily flights to Edinburgh clearly reflects the how popular this route is. Since its launch in May and with the new daily service, we aim to allow Qatar Airways to promote and support business and leisure activities from Scotland to our airline’s international network.”
The most popular destinations for passengers using the Edinburgh-Doha route are mostly in Asia and Australasia. Flight times to Melbourne were reduced from 26 hours with two transfers, to just 20 hours, with a single transfer at Hamad International Airport.
