Organic Trekking Now in India

Travel Health
Trekking in the Indian Himalayas is expected to peak this year as new regions open up and domestic tourism explodes with newfound confidence and inquisitiveness, but most trekking companies will be saving costs in an atmosphere of spiralling inflation wherever they can, particularly on food. Not so in every case, as it turns out.
'Yak Trak - unique journeys' is a premium trekking company with over 20 years experience in India, specialising in taking small groups to remote wilderness regions in the Indian Himalayas. Run by Australians with Himalayan-Indian partners, they now offer the option of ‘Organic Trekking’ to their clientele.
Sourcing produce for a new organic store, ‘Manali Organics’ proved to them that India has the variety and depth of organic stock to be able to confidently offer a wide range of organic produce from their store, and for the people who trek with them.
“We were initially quite surprised at the variety and availability of organic produce in India, as it’s not something we generally find on the shelves here in Manali at all. But when we started to research for products to put on our own shelves, we were very pleased with what we found.” commented Yak Trak director, Russell Collins, a co-founder of Manali Organics.
“My partner and I started Manali Organics as an experiment, as we were keen to be able to support our own organic diets. When I saw that there is a very passionate organic movement in India, I decided that we should be using organic produce as much as possible in all of Yak Trak’s treks and tours.”
Although Nepal is famed as the trekking mecca for people wishing to explore the Himalayas on foot, it’s not the only place to experience Himalayan trekking. Wilderness trekking in India is one of the Himalayas’ best kept secrets, and should be considered by those keen to experience the majesty of the Himalayas on one’s own two feet.
“If you’re going to be putting yourself through the effort of walking for up to 8 hours a day at high altitudes, you may as well be doing it on a high quality balanced organic diet with a good range of high protein legumes” continued Manali Organics co-founder, Chetana.
‘Yak Trak – unique journeys’ operate horse support trekking journeys, motorcycle tours, wilderness meditation camps and Himalayan culture tours out of their headquarters in Manali, a small adventure based tourist destination in the heart of Himalayan India.
