Radisson Hotel Group Leads Africa's Hospitality Growth with Major Openings

Hotels & Resorts

Radisson Hotel Group continues to strengthen its leadership position in Africa's hospitality sector, being recognized in W Hospitality Group’s 2024 "From Pipeline to Reality" report for achieving the highest number of hotel openings across the continent. In the first quarter of 2025, the Group further solidified its position with major signings in Central Africa, including its market entry into the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the signing of Radisson Blu Hotel & Apartments, Yaoundé in Cameroon.

Expanding Across Key Markets in Africa

Over the past 15 months, Radisson Hotel Group signed 11 new hotels and opened 7 properties, bringing its portfolio to more than 100 hotels across 30 countries in Africa. This expansion has increased the Group’s capacity to over 2,000 rooms, with 1,500 of those rooms having already opened. This growth is a direct result of the Group’s focused expansion strategy and strong partnerships with local developers.

“Elie Younes**, Executive Vice President & Global Chief Development Officer, Radisson Hotel Group, commented, “Our pipeline remains the most active in the industry, and we’re excited to continue expanding in new markets like Tanzania, Conakry, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, strengthening our leadership position on the continent.”

New Market Entries and Key Openings

Radisson Hotel Group has made significant inroads with its entry into the Democratic Republic of Congo, signing two landmark properties in Kinshasa and Lubumbashi.

  • Radisson Blu Hotel, Kinshasa – Scheduled to open late 2026, this upscale hotel will feature 110 rooms, a wellness center, and modern meeting spaces.

  • Radisson Hotel Lubumbashi – Opening mid-2027, this property will offer 97 rooms and facilities including a rooftop bar and flexible event spaces.

In Guinea, the Group opened the Radisson Blu Hotel, Conakry, just three months after signing. This beachfront property offers 282 rooms and sweeping ocean views. In Mauritius, Radisson Hotel Group added the Crystals Beach Resort Belle Mare, offering 234 rooms and family-friendly amenities with stunning lagoon views.

Strengthening Central Africa and Cameroon

Radisson Hotel Group is continuing its push into Central Africa with the signing of Radisson Blu Hotel & Apartments, Yaoundé in Cameroon. The hotel, which is set to open by 2026, will feature 150 rooms, modern meeting spaces, and a rooftop pool with panoramic views. Located in the heart of Yaoundé's business district, the property will cater to both business and leisure travelers.

The Group’s growth in Cameroon aligns with its strategy to expand its footprint across key markets, including Douala, the country’s economic hub.

Strategic Growth in Africa’s Key Markets

Radisson Hotel Group is also targeting additional growth in Morocco, South Africa, and Nigeria:

  • Morocco: The Group plans to have 30 hotels in the country by 2030.

  • South Africa: Targeting 25 hotels by 2030, doubling its presence in the region.

  • Nigeria: Continuing to grow its West African footprint with multiple developments in the pipeline.

These countries represent crucial markets where Radisson Hotel Group will continue to strengthen its brand and offer world-class hospitality to meet growing demand.

Commitment to Sustainability and Local Impact

Radisson Hotel Group’s commitment to sustainable development and creating local economic value is reflected in its expansion strategy. The Group’s focus on conversions, such as Radisson Blu Hotel & Convention Center, Tunis, and its successful partnership with local developers ensure continued success and operational excellence. Additionally, the Group remains dedicated to long-term social impact initiatives in the communities where it operates.

“We’re focused on consolidating our presence across key markets, such as Morocco, Nigeria, and South Africa, each with at least one opening scheduled in 2025,” Younes concluded. “Our results demonstrate the strength of our brand and our ability to adapt to diverse markets, providing exceptional service while expanding our footprint across Africa.”
