AnimaWings Launches Vienna–Cluj-Napoca Flights From July 2026
Vienna Airport is welcoming a new airline this summer, with Romanian carrier AnimaWings launching direct flights between Cluj-Napoca and Vienna from July 17, 2026 — marking the airline's debut in Austria.
The service will operate twice weekly, every Tuesday and Friday, aboard a modern Airbus A220-300. Departures from Cluj are scheduled for 06:50, arriving in Vienna at 07:20. The return leaves Vienna at 08:00, landing in Cluj at 10:20.
For Austrian and international travellers, the route opens up direct access to Cluj-Napoca — one of Romania's most dynamic cities and a growing destination for city breaks beyond the traditional European hotspots. The Transylvanian capital is known for its vibrant university atmosphere, historic old town, creative and technology scene, and lively cultural calendar. It also serves as a gateway to wider Transylvania, with medieval towns, Carpathian mountain landscapes, and the Dracula legends drawing curious visitors. Around 30 kilometres from Cluj lies Salina Turda — a former salt mine turned underground attraction complete with a Ferris wheel, boat rides, and vast caverns.
Vienna Airport joint CEO Julian Jäger welcomed the addition, describing Cluj as exactly the kind of destination increasingly sought after by city trip travellers looking beyond the classic European capitals. AnimaWings CEO Marius Pandel highlighted the route's appeal for both business and leisure passengers, pointing to Vienna's role as a major cultural and commercial hub and Cluj's rapid growth as a tech and creative centre.
