Lewis Hamilton won his second Formula 1 title after Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, while title rival Nico Rosberg suffered from engine troubles.

Before the last race of the 2014 F1 calendar, Hamilton had a 17-point lead over Rosberg. Felipe Massa finished second, just 2,5 seconds slower than Hamilton, while Rosberg came in 14th.

Hamilton is now the fourth Briton to win two F1 titles. Michael Schumacher holds the all-time record with seven titles, while the best current driver is Vettel on four championships.

It is expected that Abu Dhabi's Yas Marina Circuit will continue to be a feature on the Formula 1 calendar for years to come. The current contract is set to expire in 2016, but it will be extended once the promoter and Formula One World Championship Limited will reach a new agreement.

Over 125,000 spectators have participated at this year's race. Over 60,000 of the spectators were overseas visitors representing more than 120 nationalities.

Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, the chairman of Abu Dhabi Motorsport Management, said: "This Formula 1 race and the Yas Marina Circuit has presented the United Arab Emirates and especially Abu Dhabi to tens of millions of TV viewers and spectators from around the world."

“We remain dedicated to constantly supplying an improved experience for the ticket holders and the whole Formula 1 family. It demonstrates the quality of our partnership with Formula One World Championship that both of us want to concentrate on providing many more successful races," he added.

Bernie Ecclestone, the CEO of Formula One group of companies: "Abu Dhabi has been a pioneer in the modern era of Formula 1 racing. When the Yas Marina Circuit was first opened, I declared that it may one day be equaled, but it will never be topped. The island has continued to improve each year and there's no doubt that have a wonderful partner here."

A series of community activities and events have been taking place in Abu Dhabi as part of Yasalam’s momentous sixth year in 2014 - the biggest citywide entertainment programme run by a Formula 1 race host city.

These have included performances by singer songwriter Pharrell Williams and DJ and producer Armin Van Buuren. The Who will bring the Abu Dhabi race weekend and the Yasalam Festival to a close with a concert tonight.
