President Zelensky held speech to the Italian Parliament

The President of Ukraine also celebrated his country's resistance to the invasion by saying “Our people has become the army”.

At the same time, Zelensy insisted on more measures from the EU. “We need more sanctions, more pressure”, he said.

The Italian Parliament responded with standing ovations to Zelensky’s speech, as he asked officials to declare a full trade embargo for Russia.

“You know very well who orders troops to go to war and who propagates this. Almost all of them use Italy as a place to rest. Do not be a resort for murderers.

“Freeze all their property, accounts and yachts. Freeze all the assets of those who have influence, let them use it for peace. Support sanctions against Russia, a full trade embargo, starting with oil”, Zelensky said during his speech.

“For Russian troops, Ukraine is the gates of Europe, where they want to break in. But barbarism must not be allowed to pass.

“The most terrible thing will be the famine that is approaching for some countries.

“Ukraine has always been one of the largest food exporters, but how can we sow under the strikes of Russian artillery?

“We are on the brink of survival”, he continued.

Besides asking Italy to impose more sanctions on Kremlin, Zelensky also pledged to receive help with removal of enemy’s troops and Ukraine’s reconstruction after the war.

The President mentioned that Pope Francis himself expressed solidarity with the country’s efforts to resist the invasion, as civilians are brutally killed; among them – many children lost their lives in the attacks.

Italy’s Prime Minister Mario Draghi commented on the recent speech held by Ukraine’s President: “I want to say to President Zelensky that Italy is at Ukraine's side in this process”.
