North Wales: Flooding causes travel disruptions

Gwynedd and Anglesey experience road and railway services closing due to massive floods.

Land-slips and massive flooding affected the roads in Bethesda, Bethel, Pembrokeshire, Llangefi and Llanfairfechan, as more than 90 cm of water fall invaded the areas overnight.

According to the North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, more than 250 emergency calls were received from people needing help in order to escape the waters.

As a result of the flooding, the Virgin Trains West Coast disrupted services between Bangor and Holyhead until the road conditions will return to normal.

"I've never before seen it like that. We have had a tremendous night. I've been here for five years and it happens every year around the same time and the same spots, unfortunately, get hit quite badly, but last night was a severe one. Areas were hit much worse than they have ever been hit before and new areas as well," Bethel counselor Sion Jones declared.

As Traffic Wales data indicates, the following roads are closed:

- A5 Bangor Road, Bethesda
- A545 Beaumaris Road, Glyngareth
- A4086 at Nant Peris
- A4080 High Street, Brynsiencyn
- A4085 between Waunfawr and Rhyd Ddu
- A5025 Southbound, Pentraeth
- A4087 Bangor between Felinheli Roundabout and Cytir Lane

As the mount of rain that fell in a short time took everyone by surprise, authorities could not take effective preventive measures. Nevertheless, the situation is attended by the council staff in every town.
