India will need over 1.600 new aircrafts in the next 20 years
According to a forecast released by Airbus, from 2015 to 2034, India will purchase over 1.600 new airplanes to cope with the huge demand in the market
By 2025, India's population will surpass China's and it is considered that by 2034 every Indian passenger will travel by plane four times more than today.
As 56 per cent of India’s in service fleet are Airbus aircrafts and air traffic in the region is constantly growing, the Indian market is expected to grow at a rate of 8.4 per cent a year and as a result it will need a significant number of extra-aircrafts to meet demands, according to Airbus officials.
If the forecast is correct, India will be the world leading aviation market with a domestic traffic boosted by 9.3 per cent.
Kiran Rao, Airbus executive vice president, marketing and strategy, commented on the predictions:
“Aviation in India has a bright future.
“As India’s industrial might grows along with it comes economic development, wealth generation and a rise in the number of regular and first time flyers.
“Airbus offers the most comprehensive aircraft product range from 100 to over 600 passengers to serve the Indian public and this growing demand.”
The 1.600 Airbus aircraft order is valued at US$224 billion.
