Finavia reported a strong first half of 2026, with revenue increasing 8.9% to €238.2 million as passenger growth, new international routes and stronger commercial operations boosted the Finnish airport operator’s performance.
Operating profit reached €25.0 million for the January-June period, compared with €4.9 million a year earlier. The result for the period improved to €17.1 million from a loss of €8.5 million in the first half of 2025.
Passenger numbers across Finavia’s airports increased 6.4% to 10.5 million, including 8.5 million passengers travelling on international routes.
Finavia Q2 Revenue Reaches €110.5 Million
Finavia’s positive performance continued during the second quarter, with revenue increasing 6.3% year-on-year to €110.5 million.
Operating profit rose to €11.4 million from €2.4 million in Q2 2025, representing 10.3% of revenue.
A total of 5.2 million passengers used Finavia airports during the quarter, up 5.0% from the same period last year. Around 4.5 million travelled on international flights.
“The increase in the number of passengers in the early summer, the good development of commercial operations at airports and the determined improvement of operational efficiency increased our revenue and improved our profitability,” said Finavia CEO Kimmo Mäki.
Freight volumes also increased significantly, rising 16.4% during Q2 to 55,522 tonnes.
Helsinki Airport Passenger Traffic Increases 4.2%
Helsinki Airport handled 4.6 million passengers during the second quarter, representing year-on-year growth of 4.2%.
The first week of June was the airport’s busiest week of 2026, with approximately 378,000 passengers. Finavia said this was the second-highest weekly passenger total recorded at Helsinki Airport since the COVID-19 pandemic.
The airport’s international network also continued to expand.
China Southern Airlines launched its Beijing-Helsinki service in March, its only route to the Nordic countries, while Finnair introduced flights to Toronto in May. Qatar Airways also resumed daily Helsinki-Doha flights during the month.
Helsinki Airport offered direct connections to nearly 140 destinations during the summer season.
Finavia said the new and returning routes are strengthening Helsinki’s role as a transfer hub between Europe and Asia and between Europe and the Middle East, with transfer passenger numbers increasing during the first half.
Lapland Airports Handle 1.1 Million Passengers
Passenger growth was also recorded at Finavia’s airports in Finnish Lapland.
Rovaniemi, Kittilä, Ivalo and Kuusamo benefited particularly from increasing international demand, with Lapland airports handling approximately 1.1 million passengers during the first half of 2026, compared with 1.0 million a year earlier.
Finavia said new international routes announced for the coming winter season indicate continued growth in demand for Finnish Lapland.
The company is recruiting approximately 460 seasonal employees at its northern airports ahead of the winter peak. The additional workforce will almost double the combined number of Finavia and Airpro employees at Lapland airports during the busiest period.
Network Airport Revenue Climbs 16.8%
Revenue from Finavia’s network airports increased 16.8% during the first half to €41.7 million.
Helsinki Airport generated €97.2 million in revenue, up 9.1%, while Commercial and Real Estate Development revenue increased 9.2% to €74.5 million.
Airpro, Finavia’s ground services subsidiary, reported revenue of €48.1 million, an increase of 4.2%.
Finavia said Airpro benefited from growth in ground handling services, although profitability was weaker due to fluctuating operating volumes at network airports and competitive pressure.
Seven Finnish Airports Prepare for Remote Air Traffic Control
Finavia is also preparing to introduce remote air traffic control technology at several airports as part of its 2026-2028 strategy.
Following an agreement signed with air navigation service provider Fintraffic in June, preparations will begin at Turku, Mariehamn, Vaasa, Ivalo, Kittilä, Kuusamo and Oulu airports.
The remote air traffic control solution is scheduled to be introduced gradually from 2030.
Finavia expects the system to improve both operational efficiency and reliability.
The airport operator also received the ACI EUROPE Digital Transformation Award 2026 in June for its Airport Operational Status system.
The AOS platform provides a real-time shared view of airport operations and is currently used across all 20 Finavia airports.
Finavia Expects Up to €490 Million Revenue in 2026
Finavia has maintained its strengthened outlook for the full year, expecting revenue and operating profit to improve compared with 2025.
The company forecasts 2026 revenue of between €460 million and €490 million, compared with €447.4 million in 2025.
Operating profit is expected to reach between €40 million and €60 million, up from €27.2 million last year.
Finavia expects air travel demand to continue increasing during 2026 but cautioned that geopolitical conflicts, the closure of Russian airspace, fuel market volatility and wider economic conditions remain risks to the outlook.
Commercial aviation activity is nevertheless continuing to recover. Finavia’s airports handled 101,511 commercial flights during the first half, up 3.5%, while passenger numbers increased at a faster rate of 6.4%.
